Deja View

Google Earth Streetview has come to Wellington!

Unlike the tiny pictures on Streetview I have seen for other cities, these ones are quite big, and the view from each position is fully rotatable in three dimensions. I remember when Streetview first appeared. The pictures were small, and only rotated horizontally in 45 degree increments. Even then I thought it was pretty cool. Now, you get a pretty good feel for what streets are actually like - as I can now confirm from looking at streets I'm actually very familiar with. Before, I had looked at streets in Tokyo, New York, Chicago, and some parts of the Australian outback (weird, I know!). But now I can confirm for myself that they give a pretty good idea of what the area is like. I was driving past the end of a street today that I had explored on Streetview, and I thought "oh yes, I remember going down there". I had a good memory of what it was like down that street...but then I realized it was only a Streetview memory, and not a real one. What to call this phenomenon...

Deja View?

Weightless and alone

"Weightless and alone, you speed through the eerie nothingness of space. You circle round the moon and journey back to face the punishing torment of reentry" (from The Orb)

I've entered the blogosphere!
